More pictures from a trip four years ago. All flights were cancelled due to weather. Time to hit the road. Endless desert roads, snowy mountain passes and 18 hours from Aspen to Lake Tahoe. People say I was nuts doing the long drive, maybe they were right. But I'd love to do it again...
One can't help but be awed by the vastness and open space, and on most stretches, you are the only one on the road.
Finally reached Lake Tahoe at around 5:30am, and after a hefty breakfast, I decided to go for a more leisurely drive to check the views. Absolutely breathtaking. There are several viewing stops along the way, and each offers a unique panoramic view of this majestic lake.
Lake Tahoe is listed as the second deepest freshwater lake in the US, second to Crater Lake in Oregon, and the 26th largest lake in terms of volume in the world. Impressive numbers, but the lake is a visual feast.
The beautiful weather, the amazing clarity of the water, all add up to an awesome experience.
The early morning hours during off season brings a certain calm, matched by the stillness of the lake.
And for a few moments, the lake is all yours...
Perfect weather. Squeeze in a chopper tour and see Lake Tahoe from a different perspective, and complete your Tahoe experience. Definitely worth the 18-hour drive...and I'll do it again at a heartbeat.

Wow! These views are absolutely beautiful! Can I ask what lenses you use?
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, thanks! I used a standard kit lens for most of my photos, an 18-70mm zoom. Pretty handy when travelling, good wide angle views. Thanks for dropping in!
