Originally designed by Yuko Shimizu back in 1974 inspired by Lewis Carroll's literary children's classic Through The Looking Glass where the lead character Alice is often depicted playing with a cat named "Kitty" in the opening chapters,  Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji infused his company's motto of "social communication" by incorporating a greeting into the character's name. With no visible mouth, Hello Kitty "speaks from the heart" and unrestrained by any particular language. 

The emergence of kawaii culture which embraces cuteness propelled the now iconic feline to the world stage and has remained at the top since. A true global marketing phenomenon, the character was valued at well over $8 billion in 2014. The Lobby's exclusive Hello Kitty Afternoon Tea is priced at P 5,000 (with a pot of tea) and P 7,000 which includes two flutes of champagne. Both options are inclusive of the Hello Kitty and The Peninsula Bear limited edition plush toy set.
