Side Views: Monument Valley

After what seemed like hours on the desert road, I finally found it, and got reminded of all the classic westerns I enjoyed growing up. Four years later, I still get moved by this awesome place...

Located along the Arisona-Utah border near the Four Corners area, Monument Valley remains the most iconic image of the West. And seeing it in the fading afternoon light made the long drive absolutely worth it.

As clouds move across the sky, Monument Valley is covered in both shadows and light. And from the high vantage point, Monument Valley still looks impressive.

And as the sun slowly sets, I just wished I could stay just a little while longer before that long drive back. And there's no better way to get back than driving off into the sunset...

  4. Utah really does have some breathtaking views. I am sure that seeing this in person would definitely leave you with a peaceful tranquility. It is so rare that we actually appreciate the world around us in day to day living. Spending time in a place like this will bring you back to that.

    2. This is actually Western Colorado-Grand Junction about 35 miles from UT border and about 90 minutes from Moab, UT. I live right down the road from the trailhead that leads to the base of Independence Monument-the spire in the center of the picture. Not a bad thing to see every morning when I am driving to work. In the distance you can see Mt. Garfield and the Grand Mesa.

    3. Hi CR, we drove from Aspen to Grand Junction, quite a drive, but well worth it. And you are so lucky to see this this natural wonder everyday! I just wish I had more time to check out the Grand Mesa, hopefully someday soon. Thanks for dropping by CR!
