One (Make That Two) for the Road: Cocktails at Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912

An Old-Fashioned and a Smoking Jacket for the road...you're in good company at Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912.

After a sumptuous Head to Tail Platter for dinner at Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912 (for more on the sumptuous dinner at Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912, see my earlier post, Going Head to Tail at Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912), Chef Ranukka "Ran" Hettiarachchi and Milena Matjosaityte invited the group to the second floor for their signature handcrafted cocktails. Steak night and cocktails, all in one place, now how how cool is that?

At Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912's bar up on the second floor, master mixologists Milena Matjosaityte and Mary Jovy "MJ Ocampo prepared their signature handcrafted cocktails, just what you need after a satisfying head to tail dinner. A proper bar gives this side of the BGC that cool vibe...

The classic Old-Fashioned sets you on the right track at Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912's second floor bar...

...followed by the signature handcrafted cocktails prepared by Milena Matjosaityte and Mary Jovy "MJ" Ocampo, starting with their Te-quil-a Dragon (P 350), a sweet and tart blend with 1800 Blanco Tequila, fresh dragon fruit, tamarind, egg white, and smoked sea salt. The sweet notes of the fresh dragon fruit play with the unique hints of tamarind with the premium tequila giving it depth.

The Aye Aye (P 350), a fruity blend with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, strawberry-cinnamon shrub, pineapple, lime, and ginger, is another soothing concoction by Milena Matjosaityte and Mary Jovy "MJ" Ocampo. The pineapple and ginger give it a distinct tropical vibe, rounded out by the smoky sweetness of the spiced rum.

The Bison (P 400, L), a tall cocktail with Zubrowka Vodka, elderflower liqueur, apple, cardamom shrub, and lemon topped off with soda; and the Isla (P 350, R), a tropical-inspired concoction with Grey Goose Vodka, tropical syrup, lemon, and pineapple garinished with a flower, complete the first round.

Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912's master mixologist, Mary Jovy "MJ" Ocampo, a finalist and awardee in the first Chateau de Laubade Cocktail Competition (more on my previous post, An Encounter with Chateau de Laubade Bas Armagnac at Sage Bar), then prepared my Smoking Jacket...

"Would you want something smoky?" asked Milena, and with a quick nod, Milena and MJ get to work on another signature cocktail. Foundry by Smith Butcher 1912's Smoking Jacket (P 550), a velvety smooth blend of Bulleit Bourbon, Lagavulin Single Malt 16, Campari, sweet vermouth, and cucumber garnished with a torched rosemary is the latest addition to my list of favorite cocktails. The peaty, smoky hints of Lagavulin Single Malt and the deep, rounded notes of Bulleit Bourbon combine for a solid one-two punch, tempered by the subtle sweetness of the Campari, sweet vermouth, and fresh cucumber. The torched rosemary caps the cocktail with its mildly smoky fragrance. One more sip, followed by another round...good times. One for the road? Make that two...
