Sundown Barbecue Up High at The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space of Joy-Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila

There are times when you just want to escape the metro's busy nightlife scene, wishing you had a special place you can enjoy with a few friends without the usual crowds. At Joy-Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila, there is one such place 43 floors above the city...

The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space is the newest concept from Joy Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila Managed by Accor Hotels, soon to be on everyone's list of favorite spots for cocktails with a sunset. Ideal for exclusive corporate or social events, the spacious outdoor deck is perfect for al fresco dining and cocktails capped by a majestic sunset. And the outdoor grill offers a tasty repertoire of barbecued meats to complete the experience. Read on for a peek at one of the metro's secret spots...

Almost like a secret speakeasy, going up to The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space takes you through a series of elevators escorted by the hotel's staff. Directions are given in hushed tones, adding to the mystery. But once you reach The Roof, the view makes it all worth it. And it's easily one of the best spots in the metro to catch the sunset.

Located high up at the 43rd floor of Joy-Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila, The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space is a spacious and elegant open-air deck with wooden tables, benches and bar stools and an outdoor grill exuding a casual and laid-back vibe. At the edge of The Roof bordered by thick glass panels, guests can enjoy stunning views of the cityscape...

...and you can even catch a glimpse of the famed Manila Bay glistening on the distant horizon. The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space opens at 5:30 pm, just perfect for the sunset. It's a refreshing and whole new perspective seeing the metro 43 floors up...

...without the traffic. And the metro seems, at least from this vantage point, a lot more serene. And that's how it is at The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space, like having a special place all to yourself.

As more guests arrive for the sunset, the bar is set up for the evening's endless rounds of cocktails.

Bottles of San Miguel are chilled and placed on ice, cocktail garnishes are prepped and all you need now is the sunset. The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space also offers a selection of fine cigars to complete that top of the world vibe.

At one end of the spacious deck, lush greens frame the space revealing even more secluded areas for private functions.

The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space offers private rooms for more intimate gatherings and celebrations, like The Greenhouse with its rustic and communal vibe...

...and The Studio, a private karaoke room where you can also host movie and game nights (I hear they're planning to host a live special screening for the much-awaited last season of Game of Thrones).

But it's at the wide open deck where the magic happens, and when the sun starts to set...

...the outdoor grill is fired up. It's the Sundown Barbecue at The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space.

Watch the sunset with a cocktail, served in cool mason jars. The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space offers a variety of spirits, beer and cocktails, like Margarita (P 220), Tom Collins (P 220), Cuba Libre (P 220), Screwdriver (P 220), Long Island Iced Tea (P 300) and Weng Weng (P 300) along with San Miguel Beer and Corona.

As the sun takes its final bow, the vibe is transformed at The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space with a festive mood set by the lights from the city below.

Fresh from the grill, enjoy some of The Roof Pop-Up Bar Event Space's savory offerings like the Pork Skewer (P 300) with tender marinated pork draped in a thick and sweet glaze...

...and juicy Chicken Wings (P 380) with the delicate flavors of chicken kicked up by the bold notes from the glaze capped by smoky hints from the grill.

The lightly charred outer layer of the Barbecue Pork Ribs (P 420) adds intense smoky flavors with each bite, and the grill does its magic well.

The deep flavorful notes of the Sausage (P 320) drapes your palate with a savory richness, washed down perfectly by a cold beer or cocktail. But the Sundown Barbecue at The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space gets even better with a tasty trio of savory offerings fresh from the grill...

...with the hefty Pork Rib Sandwich (P 380), Grilled Pork Belly (P 320)...

...and juicy Cheeseburger (P 300) for a comforting yet sumptuous feast with a view 43 floors above the metro. Simple without the frills, yet just downright delicious.

The grilled dishes are wrapped in brown paper and served in special craft boxes, and you won't find plastic straws on the cocktails as well. Managed by the Accor Hotels, Joy Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila is doing its part for the Planet 21 corporate sustainable development program. It's a timely initiative, and it's good to see it at The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space.

It's a unique concept that's still evolving, and you'll definitely hear more from The Roof Pop-Up Bar Events Space soon. Late in the evening, the chill vibe high up the metro exudes a steadier tranquil mood. Maybe it's the cocktails. Or the air high up above the city. Or both. But it's a welcome and much needed change of pace.
