Beyond the Cup: Barista & Coffee Academy of Asia Coffee 101

A lot of love, dedication, and passion goes into each cup of premium coffee. And if you're after more than just a cup of coffee and craving to know more about what goes behind each cup, or even looking further and considering starting your own coffee business, then this might be for you...

The Barista & Coffee Academy of Asia, or BCAA, will be holding special classes, including an advanced coffee roasting and specialty coffee grading classes in September. BCAA also offers short courses on Brewing Practice, Barista 101, Coffee Business Management, Menu Development, Cafe Operations, High Tea, and Cocktails this August. Grab yourself a freshly brewed cup of coffee and read on...

An estimated 2.35 billion cups of coffee is consumed every single day, making it one of the world's most sought commodity second only to oil and higher than natural gas, gold, brent crude, sugar and corn. It's a serious business, requiring a specialized skill set if you want to get involved in the worldwide industry, or simply set up your own neighborhood coffee shop. And it all starts with a good coffee bean. Reinforcing the standards of specialty coffee links everyone in the supply chain with an integrity that shows pride in the product. Licensed graders by the Coffee Quality Institute determine the quality of premium coffee, armed with several sensory, coffee origin cupping skills, triangulation skills, and olfactory skills after rigorously passing rigid calibration exams. The growing interest in becoming a specialty coffee grader around the world reflects the commodity's continued popularity, and BCAA will be holding another Q Grading Class on September 13-17 and 19, 2016 under the instruction of Jodie Weiser of the Gather Coffee Company from the US. Jodie Weiser, a licensed Q Grader instructor and Certified Instructional Trainer for the Specialty Coffee Association of America will also conduct an advanced roasting class on September 20 and 21.

Just like wine, coffee has its own distinct language. If you've long considered combining your love of coffee with an entrepreneurial spirit, now's your chance with BCAA's coffee courses. In the meantime, have a freshly brewed cup of coffee, and think of the limitless possibilities...
