Ebun Barag: Not Your Usual Egg Hunt

My mom and aunt decided to go on an egg hunt last weekend, and both were determined to bring back some unusual and truly exotic eggs. They were after Ebun Barag, monitor lizard eggs, and according to them, this was the season. I decided to come along and join them in their adventure, and off we go...and after an hour and half's drive, we arrive at San Fernando, Pampanga.

A quick stop at my Aunt's ancestral home, and we resume the search for the seasonal eggs. I've never tried Ebun Barag before, but I thought this would be an interesting road trip. Both my mom and aunt reminisced about their childhood and the pleasures of Ebun Barag, and encouraged me to give it a try, at least once. But just thinking about it gave me goosebumps, anything reptilian just gives me the creeps. I mean, seriously, I think even Andrew Zimmern  just might blink on this. But then again, maybe not.

And Team USA Men's Basketball, who successfully defended their 2008 Olympics medal and a 2010 FIBA championship, wins a third straight international title. These and other amazing stories from a city that has hosted an Olympics event three times (1908, 1948 and 2012). Good things seem to come in threes, and I thought of having a little trifecta of my own...and with Mexico's stunning Olympic gold medal win over Brazil in football, going Mexican seemed appropriate.

B&T Mexican Kitchen has some of the best tacos in the metro, and I go for a trifecta with Carne Asada (steak), Carnitas (shredded pork) and Cabeza (ox mask) combo.

A Little Sunshine and Southwestern Flavors at Chili's

The rains have finally eased up, but the skies remained grey.  A little taste of sunshine would be nice. 

Southwestern flavors on a grey overcast day seemed to be a good idea. And Chili's is definitely the place.
