Food News: P. F. Chang's Unveils New Asian-Inspired Dishes

P.F. Chang's introduces its latest line of Asian dishes including an extensive array of dim sum choices to complement its existing menu. Traditional Asian favorites infused with P.F. Chang's unique DNA, and here's a sneak peek...

"Each of these dishes, many of which were US-developed, represents familiar Asian favorites with the distinct P.F. Chang's DNA. We hope that with the addition of the new dim sum category on our menu plus the other new dishes, P.F. Chang's will entice even more loyal guests. Many of our new items like dim sum come at a very attractive price point, even below P 200," said Archie Rodriguez, President and CEO of Global Restaurant Concepts, Inc, the local partner of US-based P.F. Chang's.

Along with the new dishes, P.F. Chang's also offers a new line of refreshing smoothies, like the Honeydew Cucumber Smoothie...

...and the Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, both exciting and refreshing, and goes great with any dish at P.F. Chang's. If you're looking for a fruitier blend, try P.F. Chang's new Mango Peach Mint Smoothie.

Our meal begins with P.F. Chang's Ahi Cucumber Salad, seared premium Ahi Tuna on cool cucumber slivers, roasted tomatoes, asparagus, sweet and juicy peaches, dill and herbs tossed in a sweet, creamy and tangy summer dressing. The dressing has a subtle sweetness and a hint of dill, which works really well with the vegetables and premium tuna.

P. F. Chang's Tuna Tataki, once served only on special events, finally makes it to the regular menu. Diced sushi-grade tuna is blended with refreshing cucumbers and crunchy sesame seeds seasoned with citrus soy sauce and served on top of seared Ahi Tuna slices on crispy wonton disks. Subtle flavors, contrasting textures, a personal favorite.

Tofu Steak, crispy breaded silken tofu slices topped with charred bell peppers, onions and savory Kung Pao sauce. Deliciously crisp on the outside and soft and tender inside, each bite is a play on textures, with the Kung Pao sauce rounding out the flavors. If you love tofu, you'll love this.

Next, the first of many dim sum dishes arrived, starting with the Radish Shrimp Dumplings, tender and plump shrimps and asparagus topped with daikon coin, cilantro and tobiko caviar. The delicate and elegant dim sum is crowned by bright orange fish roe, and the flavors are subtle yet rich that can only come from the freshest ingredients.

P.F. Chang's version of the popular "soup pork dumplings", the Xiao Long Bao, served with a sweet ginger-flavored pot sticker sauce. The dough is firm and chewy, just perfect to contain the hot soup. Pour some sauce on your spoon, add some chili for a little kick, and gently place the dumpling on the spoon, then go for it in one big bite.

For heftier appetites, P.F. Chang's offers the Grilled Angus Flank Steak, marinated tender and juicy sliced premium steak served with a sweet and savory side of grilled hoisin glazed peaches and Chinese eggplant.

The US Angus flank steak is perfectly grilled with a juicy pink center, and despite being leaner than most cuts, remains tender and flavorful. The eggplants are also great, with a firm, almost meaty texture, while the grilled peaches add a sweet and savory note to the dish. Seriously good.

Craving for dim sum with a serious kick? Go for the Flaming Red Wontons, pork dumplings covered in P. F. Chang's signature chili sauce topped with scallions and sesame seeds. The cooling heat from the chili and spices gradually build up without overpowering the subtle flavor of the pork wonton. But if you have a low tolerance for heat, no problem, just have a Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie ready.

Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, the classic hacao, with P.F. Chang's modern and elegant touch. The shrimps have a nice snap when you bite into the dumpling, releasing a subtle sweetness. The flavors are pure and simple, and with fresh, premium ingredients, you really don't need much.

Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings, pot sticker style wraps filled with minced chicken and seasoned with lemongrass, cilantro and ginger. Available steamed or pan-fried, the dumplings offer a unique flavor unlike the usual dim sum, with its mix of herbs. Different and refreshing, a cool Pan-Asian take on dumplings.

Vegetarian Dumplings, filled with tofu, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, ginger, onions and rice noodles. Instead of the usual egg-wrapper, the Vegetarian Dumplings use a special spinach wrapper. Despite having none of the familiar flavors of pork or shrimps, I enjoyed the vegetarian dumplings for its clean flavors.

For dessert, P.F. Chang's revisits another popular dim sum favorite, Choco Buchi, traditional rice balls covered in sesame seeds and filled with rich and indulgent chocolate with a hint of peanuts. Soft and chewy, with the chocolate adding just the right level of sweetness. Great with some of P.F. Chang's specialty teas.

Or you can go with another of P.F. Chang's remake of the familiar dessert spring roll, Chang's Apple Crunch, crisp rolls fille with juicy and tart Granny Smith apples over caramel sauce with vanilla ice cream. The combination of tart apples and rich ice cream go well with the crisp rolls, another winner at P.F. Chang's.
