East Meets West at Alter Ego European-Asian Fusion Bistro

Fusion doesn't have to be confusing. In fact, it makes a whole lot of sense...here at Alter Ego.

A savory Pork Curry Salpicao, a comforting Pumpkin & Mushroom Soup Souffle, and a decadent Pate Au Choux filled with Leche Flan, you just don't find that anywhere. But you can find it here at Alter Ego in New Manila where east meets west (for more on Alter Ego, see my earlier post, Fusion Without Confusion: Discover A Unique Brand of Fusion Cuisine at Alter Ego European-Asian Fusion Bistro on the recent opening of New Manila's newest dining destination).

Our feast of east meets west at Alter Ego starts with Lavash, a crisp and thin unleavened flatbread sprinkled with sesame seeds. The light nutty notes of the Lavash makes you go for another piece, and yet another. It's a great start at Alter Ego, as the next round of dishes were served...

The 5-Hero Fruit Green Salad (P 230) is a hefty bowl of crisp garden-fresh greens tossed with a variety of fresh fruits in a tart vinaigrette. The pure and clean notes of the salad line the palate, punctuated by the sweet notes of the fresh fruits. Just perfect.

The comforting Pumpkin & Mushroom Soup Souffle (P 200) is another playfully inventive dish combining the rich flavors of the pumpkin soup with its sweet and earthy notes with the nutty hints of mushrooms covered in a pillow-soft souffle.

Simply dip your spoon into the soft souffle and you'll have the vibrant orange colored pumpkin soup coating your spoon. The infusion of mushrooms in the thick and hearty soup makes this dish different, as well as the souffle for a blend of comforting flavors.

For the mains, Alter Ego offers a variety of sumptuous and savory one-of-a-kind creations combining eastern flavors and western techniques for a unique dining experience. Alter Ego's Pork Curry Salpicao (P 320) is one such dish, a flavorful mash-up of fork-tender and juicy pork in a rich curry sauce prepared salpicao-style topped with an egg yolk. Looks pretty, tastes even better.

The distinct notes of curry, kaffir lime and lemongrass come together in a tasty blend draping the tender pork. One bite of the fork-tender pork releases a juicy and savory richness capped by the egg yolk. Have this with some garlic fried rice and you a have a winning meal at Alter Ego.

Then, there's the Chicken Pandan Paella (P 450), a runaway favorite from the tasty preview of Alter Ego some weeks back (see my post here at Fusion Without Confusion: Discover A Unique Brand of Fusion Cuisine at Alter Ego European-Asian Fusion Bistro). Alter Ego offers a wide array of dishes including Ribeye Steak with Hollandaise Sauce (P 650), Beef Bourguignon (P 420), Sous Vide Pork Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Puree (P 420), Chicken Cordon Bleu with Mushroom Sauce (P 320), Grilled Pork Belly with Butter Basil Rice (P 295), and Chicken Curry Cassoulet (P 290), take your pick.

Dessert can be an equally exciting experience at Alter Ego with its east-west spin, like the Pate Au Choux with Creme Caramel Filling (P 200) topped with a fresh strawberry. Adding the leche flan completes the east-west connection to another indulgent dessert. Other tempting and indulgent options include the Coco-Mango Gateau (P 180) and the Banana Coco Pandan Croissant (P 180).

Cap your flavorful fusion feast at Alter Ego with their selection of fine teas...

...or a freshly brewed cup of Cafe Latte for that perfect ending. Start the new year with refreshing flavors at Alter Ego, and discover fusion without the confusion.
