Side Views: Pike Place Market, Seattle's Best

They say the best way to really know a city is to visit the local market. See the local produce, see what the locals eat and breathe in the local vibe. And Seattle's Pike Place Market is definitely an attraction you shouldn't miss.

Be amazed with the wide and extensive varieties of local seafood, all caught fresh from the rich Pacific coast and Alaska. A traditional farmers' market, shoppers have the rare opportunity of getting up close with the local producer, farmer and fisherman. More than a hundred years old and still going strong, Pike Place Market is a great place to know the city of Seattle.

Ready...

Catch! Watch the entertaining fish throwers, just be on the lookout for flying fish!

After exploring the market, have a steaming hot bowl of Clam Chowder at Pike Place Chowder.

Best chowder at the Market.

Check out the local craft and antique shops as well, and don't forget to drop by the very first Starbucks outlet. And try to taste the different food items in the market, like fresh artisan cheese, dairy products, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies as big as a dinner plate, and of course, stop by Rachel the Pig, the market's mascot, for a photo.

The city of Seattle is modern, cosmopolitan and very progressive, but Pike Place Market gives the city its character and soul. Great food, great sights all in one place. Definitely one of Seattle's best.

  2. Thanks, this is definitely a must stop when you visit the city. Best to come in the morning, have coffee and breakfast or a chowder brunch and explore the market before the crowds come in. Thanks for visiting the Dude's blog!
