Magnolia Flavor House: Back in Time with Black & White

Like seeing an old friend, it was great to hear that Magnolia Flavor House is back. And my old childhood favorite, Magnolia's classic Black & White, returns to the menu.

Magnolia's iconic Black & White (P 200), one scoop of vanilla in between two scoops of chocolate ice cream, topped with whipped cream, white and dark chocolate chips, chocolate pretzel sticks and a cherry.

Each bite transports you back to simpler times, to simple pleasures, and fond memories. Every childhood celebration meant a visit to Magnolia. And indulging in a Black & White made the event even more special. Back then, there was absolutely no problem that couldn't be fixed with a simple serving of Magnolia's sundaes or banana splits, and my recent visit relived that same optimistic feeling.

It was quite a thrill to see the familiar blue and white colors reminiscent of the old Magnolia Ice Cream Parlor, and the updated version maintains the same look and feel. Gone are the clear plastic boat dishes of the old Magnolia, replaced by simpler, more elegant china. The crushed cashew toppings are now replaced with chocolate chips, and the traditional barquillos with crunchy chocolate covered pretzel sticks. Not bad. And I'm liking this updated Black & White Version 2.0.

Despite the presence of so many international and premium ice cream brands in the market, the old Magnolia still retains its nostalgic charm, and the updated relaunch keeps it in sync with the times, introducing a whole new generation to Magnolia's rich ice cream tradition.

It was raining that afternoon, but nothing would stop me from reuniting with my Black & White. Absolutely nothing.

And the new Black & White didn't disappoint. Well worth the trip. And the world just seems a better place with a classic Black & White.

Three scoops of pure indulgence. Nice.

And as expected, Magnolia Flavor House was packed. There was a children's party inside, an old couple enjoying their sundaes. perhaps reliving memories of their first date, and a young family introducing Magnolia to their kids. The vibe and feel of the place just seemed to overwhelm you with pleasant thoughts, and reliving old memories.

I bumped into old friends and familiar faces, and all came to relive their childhood memories with Magnolia as well. The updated menu also includes new items like Magnolia's Red Velvet (P 240), a scoop of vanilla in between 2 scoops of strawberry ice cream, topped with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, dark chocolate chips and a cherry. Nice.

And it's also fitting that the new Magnolia Flavor House is situated on the location of its former ice cream plant, now a new mall. And this just adds more familiarity to an already memorable experience.

Great to see an old friend again, and I'll definitely be seeing more of Magnolia Flavor House. Take a bite back in time, and revisit an old childhood favorite. The good times are definitely back...

Magnolia Flavor House is located at the Upper Ground Level of Robinsons Magnolia, Aurora Blvd. corner Dona Hemady, New Manila, Quezon City.

  5. Love it when food takes you back to happy days and fond childhood memories. Possibly one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about it. Good stuff as always! I think ice cream flavours are getting a bit too complex and sophisticated for me these days lol. As long as it's yummy on a hot day, good enough of me. I'll pass on the gourmet stuff hahaha
