What's in the Fridge...Bagels and Smoked Salmon

Bagels, cream cheese, and smoked salmon...classic New York flavors recreated.


It's another productive haul from the fridge, yielding just exactly what you need for some lox and bagels...


Time to prep the goods. Heat up the bagels, add a generous schmear of cream cheese, lay on the smoked salmon, and top off with some red onions. Simple, fast and easy, it's the closest thing to kosher from my fridge. And it works for me.


The mildly briny and smoky notes of the salmon weave in with the rich flavors of the cream cheese followed by the sharp bite of the red onions, and finally capped by the soft and chewy bagels. It may be a far cry from the classic bagel and lox from Russ & Daughters, make that 8,491 miles to be exact, but hey, it's a pretty good hint of the big apple. And I'll have another one for a tasty New York state of mind right here...
