Say Cheese. And Wine. And Raclette. It's Wine & Cheese Night at Old Swiss Inn...

Wine, cheese and raclette. That's the way to end the week. At Old Swiss Inn...

Since 1946, Old Swiss Inn has been a favorite among locals with their signature fondues and other Swiss classics. This culinary tradition is celebrated in a one-night only Wine & Cheese Night for Old Swiss Inn's countless loyal diners and to commemorate Swiss National Month (for more on Old Swiss Inn, see my previous post, First Taste: Old Swiss Inn's New Scamorza Fondue). Read on for a peek at another memorable evening at Old Swiss Inn...

The enduring and much-loved Old Swiss Inn remains as popular as ever. And in one special evening, Old Swiss Inn presented their Wine and Cheese Night with a lavish spread of tasty bites and endless rounds of red and white wine last August 30, 2019. The one-night only event was held in thanksgiving for their loyal diners.

Unlimited cheeses including raclette, canapes, charcuterie and wine for only P 899 per head, it's the perfect deal to end another long week. By 6pm, the reserved tables at Old Swiss Inn slowly filled up...

...for an epic Wine & Cheese Night. That evening, massive trays filled with Gruyere and Emmental were positioned on both ends of the sumptuous spread.

Gruyere and Emmental are perhaps the most iconic and comes top-of-mind among Swiss cheeses, and Old Swiss Inn laid it all out for Wine & Cheese Night. The creamy, mildly sweet and nutty hints of Gruyere and the bold, earthy notes of Emmental line the palate with an indulgent richness...

...while an extensive selection of intricate and flavorful canapes added to the festive vibe of Old Swiss Inn's Wine & Cheese Night.

Time to pick up a plate and dive right into Old Swiss Inn's Wine & Cheese Night celebration. The bite-sized treats offered contrasting flavors and textures, each prepared in the classic Old Swiss Inn style. The tempting array of canapes, in a variety of shapes and colors from assorted charcuterie on crisp crostinis...

...to crunchy yet soft croquettes paired with a rich garlic aioli and slices of baguettes topped with liver pate is a feast in itself. And when you can come back for endless rounds as much as you want with bottomless red and white wines, ending the week becomes even more special at Old Swiss Inn.

But there's more...

Savory slices of Sausages...

...and Bacon completed the tasty offerings at Old Swiss Inn's Wine & Cheese Night.

Pair your cheeses and canapes with free-flowing wine...

...from Candidato of Spain featuring their bold red Tempranillo and crisp and refreshing Viura. Start with a white and follow it up with a red, and repeat.

But the highlight for many that evening was Old Swiss Inn's Raclette Station...

...with its massive wedge of cheese mounted on the special grill apparatus. When heated, the the surface of the cheese melts, oozing down and scraped directly to your plate. Long lines queued up at Old Swiss Inn's Raclette Station as the chefs scraped all night long to diners and guests for the Wine & Cheese Night.

The origins of raclette can be traced back to medieval times when Swiss and German cow herders would bring their herds from the pastures to the mountains in the Alpine region, bringing along some cheese. The cheese would then be placed beside a campfire at the end of the day, softening it and spreading it on bread. Today, this tradition is celebrated daily at Old Swiss Inn.

Gherkins, marble potatoes and pickled onions topped with creamy raclette cheese along with a variety of cheeses, canapes and wine, it just doesn't get better than that.

The hard pale yellow Swiss cheese is transformed by the heat, making it soft and velvety smooth draping the marble potatoes, gherkins and pickled onions. One serving teases the palate, so going for seconds and thirds is pretty much standard at Old Swiss Inn's Wine & Cheese Night.

No dining experience at Old Swiss Inn is complete without their signature best-sellers since 1946, like the traditional Fresh Corned Beef (P 690) with boiled potatoes and cabbage...

...the juicy and crisp Gnagi (P 860) or fried cured pork knuckles served with a side of sauerkraut...

...and the indulgent Classic Chocolate Fondue (P 650) made with honey and almond nougat Toblerone (diners can choose from Toblerone's Milk, White or Dark Chocolate). These are the dishes that established Old Swiss Inn as one of the metro's iconic restaurants for over 76 years.

Cheese, wine, and raclette. And then some. That's the way to end the week...

...at Old Swiss Inn. The one-time only Wine & Cheese Night at Old Swiss Inn not only highlights Swiss National Month, it also celebrates Old Swiss Inn's enduring and timeless appeal. Here's a toast to Old Swiss Inn, and hoping for another Wine & Cheese Night soon...
