Persian Flavors at Arya

There's just something about grilling meat, an almost primal appeal that just overwhelms you. Throw in some Middle Eastern spices, some Basmati rice and grilled tomatoes, and you have the makings of a great late lunch kebab feast...

Middle Eastern cuisine, particularly kebabs, have gained so much popularity in the past decade, and the rising number of kebab joints is a clear indication of this continuing trend. And one place that stands out from the rest is Arya, serving authentic kebab dishes since 2005.

Arya offers a variety of kebabs, from grilled pork, lamb, chicken, beef and seafood as well as other Middle Eastern dishes. Like many times before, I go for the lamb, and some basmati rice.

Arya's Bareh Koobideh (P 392+, add P 20 for Basmati Rice), with grilled tomatoes. A complete meal, you have a choice of either Basmati or Biryani rice. If you love the flavor of grilled meat, I think basmati rice is the way to go, with a subtle hint of butter to bring out the flavor of the kebabs.

Arya's staff can also prepare a garlic chili sauce with the grilled tomatoes right at your table if you prefer, and it's quite a performance as they expertly peel the grilled tomatoes. You can adjust the heat of the sauce by adding more of the chili sauce.

The lamb kebabs are tender and juicy, with a nice smoky grilled flavor. The kebabs are done to your liking, and I usually go for medium to retain the juiciness of the meat.

Arya's is also cozy and homey, plus hookahs are also available, just perfect to cap your meal.

A late lunch at Arya's, always a winner.

Arya Persian Restaurant is located at Unit L9 Ground Level, Promenade Mall, Greenhills.
