Pearl Of Three Waters: Irish Gallagher Oysters And French Legris Oysters Face Off At The Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition At Newport World Resorts

It was a classic duel at sundown. Two of the world's coveted names in oysters face off at the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition at Newport World Resorts...

Irish Gallagher Oysters. And French Legris Oysters. Two of the world's finest brands come together in a celebration of pure and fresh flavors at the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition at Newport World Resorts. As in any competition, one stands victorious. But the real winner? Guests and diners of Manila Marriott can now enjoy the very best oysters from Ireland and France at Cru Steakhouse, now open for Sunday Lunch and Marriott Cafe in a lavish buffet dinner spread. Read on for front row seats in an epic duel...

Manila Marriott Executive Chef Meik Bramm and his culinary team led the formal opening of the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition at Newport World Resorts showcasing premium Irish Gallagher Oysters and French Legris Oysters. The unique event kicked off a one-of-a-kind dining experience at Cru Steakhouse featuring the prized Irish and French oysters. And there's just no better stage than Cru Steakhouse at Manila Marriott for an epic feast of the acclaimed oysters alongside their signature steaks everyday of the week including Sunday Lunch (for more on the Sunday Lunch at Cru Steakhouse, see my previous post Sunday Best: The Tomahawk Sunday Lunch At Michelin Selected Cru Steakhouse In Manila Marriott from February this year). You can also indulge with unlimited premium Irish GallagherFrench Legris and local oysters for a sumptuous buffet dinner at Marriott Cafe starting April 18, 2026

In line with Marriott International's advocacy on sustainability, the winner of the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition will be awarded with a special trophy made entirely from recycled chopsticks by ChopValue. A global pioneer in circular economy through regenerative production, waste is transformed into resource crafted and engineered into functional products from furniture to chopping boards. And trophies too. ChopValue also created the trophies for the recent Marriott International Sinagtala Philippine Culinary Arts Cup (more on my post here at And Your Winners Of The Marriott International Philippine Culinary Arts Cup Are... from October last year).

At the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition, the teams from the legendary oyster farms shared light moments with key management from Newport Resorts World before the epic duel. Edward Gallagher (C) is widely recognized as the man behind the Irish Premium Oyster aquaculture empire raised in the pristine waters of Donegal in Ireland for over 35 years...

...while Lea Foquet (R) represented Legris, a familiar name among the finest restaurants in the world for their acclaimed oysters raised in the Lilia Archipelago of Brittany in the northwesternmost region of France.

And the stage is set for the much anticipated showdown...

Hosted by US-based Filipino-American celebrity Donita Rose, the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition was set in motion...

...as Edward Gallagher and Lea Foquet unsheathed their short oyster knives for the duel.

Ninety seconds of pure speed and precision followed, as both Edward Gallagher and Lea Foquet masterfully shucked each oyster amidst the glaring lights and cheers of the guests. Here's a teaser video capturing both the mood and vibe of the competition (for more on the actual oyster shucking competition, you can view my reels on https://www.instagram.com/dudeforfood/ at IG Reel 1IG Reel 2 and IG Reel 3).

Ninety seconds became a frenzied blur with one clear winner emerging from the haze with the most oysters shucked within the allotted time. On stage, ChopValue Managing Director Tim Ng, Newport World Resorts SVP for for Marketing Mitch Suarez and Marriott International Area General Manager Philippines Bruce Winton prepared to award the winner...

Edward Gallagher of Ireland claimed the honor of Master Shucker at the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition at Newport World Resorts. This calls for some irish single malt for a proper celebration the Irish way...

In the end, it was more than a competition. It was a celebration of pure, fresh and exquisite flavors from a bountiful harvest off the coasts of Ireland and France.

And now, you too can enjoy this prized harvest from the clear waters of Ireland and France at Cru Steakhouse and Marriott Cafe in Manila Marriott. Both Irish Gallagher and French Legris oysters will be available to the real winners of the Pearl of Three Waters: Philippine Oyster Shucking Competition, and that's you.
