For steak lovers, Sundays are now a red-letter day to mark on your busy calendar. Why? It's Tomahawk Sunday Lunch at Cru Steakhouse in Marriott Manila...
Normally open exclusively only for dinner service, Sunday lunch becomes a rare exception for Cru Steakhouse. Following its impressive inclusion in the inaugural list of Michelin Selected establishments last year, Cru Steakhouse begins the year on a high note with the Tomahawk Sunday Lunch. Is there any better way to spend a leisurely Sunday than a savory Tomahawk Steak lunch with friends and family? Then head on over to Cru Steakhouse...
Known for their premium grilled steaks, Cru Steakhouse in Marriott Manila always held a special spot in my food blog's journey. From my very first visit almost eleven years back to my most recent, Cru Steakhouse never fails to impress (for more on Cru Steakhouse, see my posts The Meat Of The Matter...At Cru Steakhouse. from 2015, Taste The Challenge: Ready For Your Mystery Box At Cru Steakhouse? from 2018 and Firing Up The Grill With An All-New Menu At Cru Steakhouse In Marriott Manila Hotel from four years ago). And now, Cru Steakhouse raises the stakes with the Sunday Tomahawk Lunch.
Inside, the elegant old world steakhouse vibe of Cru Steakhouse sets the tone not only for a memorable dinner but an equally unforgettable Tomahawk Sunday Lunch. The grills are fired up early, and the slabs of Tomahawk steaks are prepped for the grill...
Options for the Tomahawk Sunday Lunch at Cru Steakhouse include the Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6 (P 9,800), the Rosedale Ruby Angus Tomahawk MB3+ (P 7,500) and the Five Founders Tomahawk MB2+ (P 7,900). But if you're craving for a non-beef alternative, Cru Steakhouse also offers their Contemporary Plates of Crusted Chicken Roulade (P 1,870) or the Grilled Barramundi Fillet (P 2,500).
That Sunday lunch at Cru Steakhouse was my memorable date with the premium Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6. Each order comes with a choice of starter, the Cru Caesar Salad or Mushroom Soup and one of eight sides, the Whipped Potatoes, 5 Cheese Baked Macaroni, Black Truffle Risotto, CRU Fries, Creamed Spinach, Braised Carrots, Cauliflower Au Gratin and Steamed Broccoli. And the sauce? Choose from Black Peppercorn Sauce, Forest Mushroom Sauce, Blue Cheese or Chimichurri.
The Cru Caesar Salad with garden-fresh and crisp greens topped with crunchy croutons, bacon and Parmesan brings fresh, sharp yet clean notes for a proper starter before the savory Tomahawk feast...
...while the Wild Mushroom Soup with its grainy and velvety smooth texture and deep earthy and nutty notes warms the palate with each soothing sip. This was my pick at the Tomahawk Sunday Lunch of Cru Steakhouse.
Then, the moment we all eagerly awaited is presented...
...and carved by your tableside. From the grill to the carving board, the Tomahawk Sunday Lunch at Cru Steakhouse was a culinary spectacle adding to the classic and even nostalgic old world steakhouse dining experience.
And the Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6? Exactly as advertised. Perfectly grilled to medium finish with its juicy pink center, each tender bite drapes the palate with a buttery richness. It has a subtle bite and not nearly melt-in-your-mouth but that's the kind of steak I prefer. And no, you don't need sauce for steak this good. Richly seasoned right on the grill before serving, the Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6 is ready to tease and delight your palate right from the get-go and straight from the carving table.
Elegantly carved, the presentation of the Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6 becomes a stunning and impressive centerpiece to your table at Cru Steakhouse, consistent with Marriott Manila's commitment to "Wonderful Hospitality. Always."
Take a closer look at the carving board. Made entirely from recycled chopsticks by ChopValue Philippines, it also represents one of Marriott Manila's advocacies with sustainability high up on the list of priorities. And in case you're wondering, the board is made with 600 recycled chopsticks. ChopValue Philippines also offers a full line of furniture made entirely from chopsticks too (for more on ChopValue Philippines and Marriott Manila, see my post And Your Winners Of The Marriott International Sinagtala Culinary Cup Are... from late last year).
To complete the savory Sunday Tomahawk Lunch, I go for the Cauliflower Au Gratin for my side of vegetables. Rich and creamy with a cheesy finish and just a whisper of subtle sweetness from the cauliflower, the Cauliflower Au Gratin makes you go for a second bite. And another.
Other sides served included the Creamed Spinach and Black Truffle Risotto with its own unique play on savory notes and textures to complement the Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6.
Then, your eyes are lured back to the carving board for one more slice of the Ruby Reserve Australian Wagyu Tomahawk MB6. With just the right layers of fat in between tender and juicy beef, the flavorful burst that follows each bite makes you come back for more. It's a seriously good steak for a proper Sunday feast.
And for dessert, Cru Steakhouse completes the sumptuous Tomahawk Sunday Lunch with a decadent trio of sweet indulgences like the aptly named Death by Chocolate made with Maracaibo Dark Chocolate 65%, salted caramel ganache and raspberry sauce...
...the Burnt Caramel Cheesecake, a Japanese-Spanish style cheesecake with caramelized sugar and fresh berries...
...and the rustic Apple Galette with fresh apples in phyllo pastry sheet, cinnamon sugar, home-made vanilla gelato, tuile leaf and salted caramel sauce for the picture perfect sweet ending at Cru Steakhouse. Sundays were always associated with festive feasts and Cru Steakhouse does one better with the Tomahawk Sunday Lunch. Time to book your table for Sunday...
