Healthy Shabu-Shabu at The Podium

The cool weather and early evening rain means it's time for shabu-shabu. And with a name like Healthy Shabu-Shabu, how can you go wrong?

Shabu-Shabu is the Japanese version of the hot pot, and the name comes from the swishing sound of cooking meat, vegetables and other ingredients in the pot. Each table is set up with individual hot pots with its own set of controls. Your very own hot pot. Very cool. No chop stick duels for the last piece of shrimp. On the  left is the Chicken Breast Set (P295) and the Mixed Seafood Set A (P 505) with large shrimp, squid, fish and mushrooms.

The soup stock is then poured on each hot pot, and the fun begins...

Each order comes with a platter of mixed vegetables, fish and meat balls, tofu, mushrooms, corn and two kinds of noodles. Chilis, garlic, a soy based dipping sauce and other spices are also provided.

The Dude goes for the Beef Tenderloin Strips and Shrimp Combination Set (P 590), building the soup base with the vegetables and shrimp. After a few minutes, the pot starts to boil. And this is the hardest part, when every part of your senses tells you to just dive in...

The Beef Tenderloin Strips, ready for the hot pot.

A few more minutes, and its ready. The combination of flavors as the pot continues to boil is amazing. And pretty filling too. With the noodles and vegetables, no need for rice. Now that's healthy. And there's nothing like cooking your own food at the table, with your very own hot pot. Now that's cool.

Healthy Shabu-Shabu is located at the 2nd Level of The Podium. Call 914-1028 for inquiries.
