Not Your Usual Suspects: Sumptuous Oktoberfest Picks at Brotzeit

There's just no other restaurant in the metro where a spot of Bavaria and all its flavors come to life like Brotzeit. Since 2013, Brotzeit remains the only true Bavarian biergarten in Manila's ever changing restaurant landscape, and every October the annual Bavarian folk festival is celebrated cementing its position in the local dining scene as the premier destination for hearty brews fresh on tap from the world's oldest brewery and sumptuous Bavarian cuisine. It's time to raise your steins once more, it's Oktoberfest at Brotzeit...

Every year, Brotzeit unveils new seasonal dishes in celebration of Oktoberfest. From their always impressive sausage selections and platters to signature dishes like the Schweinshaxn or crisp pork knuckles, Brotzeit is also known as "The Home of the Schnitzel" with its legit rendition of the timeless German classic. Everyone has a fave dish at Brotzeit, and a list of top dishes is an all too common narrative led by the familiar suspects dominating your social media feed. This Oktoberfest, allow me to change things up and recommend other picks from the Limited Time Oktoberfest Menu that deserves its place under the spotlight alongside your usual Shcweinshaxn. Now grab that soft and warm Bavarian Brezn and read on...

That festive Oktoberfest vibe is recreated, completed with all the trimmings to transform Brotzeit into a spot of Bavaria at the top of The Podium. Pick your table and let the festivities begin...

A table for the whole posse or just an intimate few, your table is ready at Brotzeit. Snap off a piece of the warm Brezn before that first soothing sip of Weihenstephan Festbier, after all Brotzeit literally means "bread time" (for more on Brotzeit, see my posts Prost! Good Times At Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant from all the way back in 2013 during the opening of its very first branch, Prost! Raise A Toast To The New Home Of Brotzeit At The Podium from last year on their relocation to The Podium, Say Prost To Beer, Bites And Beats As Brotzeit Celebrates Oktoberfest 2025 also from last year, and Three Must-Try Dishes At Brotzeit on their savory signature offerings from 2014). From the new Limited Time Oktoberfest Menu, here are three dishes to add to your table...

...starting with the Bayrische Weisswurst (P 390) featuring Bavarian pork and veal sausages in a light and clear broth served with a pretzel. It's a regular item on the menu at Brotzeit, and it remains one my all-time picks. How can you go wrong with sausages, a light yet flavorful broth and a pretzel, right?

Dip the pretzel in the broth and enjoy comforting flavors with the generous sprinkling of rock salt on the pretzel punching up the subtle savory notes with each bite. Then, enjoy a slice of the Bayrische Weisswurst with a dab of sweet mustard...

...with each juicy bite announced by a fresh and audible snap. Now, there's a proper way to enjoy the Bayrische Weisswurst or traditional "white sausage." Simply slice it in half, dip the open end in sweet mustard and suck the pork and veal filling. Tradition dictates that the casing should never be eaten. This may sound sacrilegious to purists, but I enjoy the filling and casing with its fresh snap with every bite. Just take a bite before anyone notices but I suggest following the traditional way in the presence of foreign guests to avoid being a meme on social media for a culinary faux pas. A bite of the peeled filling of pork and veal drapes the palate with a light yet savory burst of elegantly nuanced notes without the casing getting in the way. Think of it as a whole new way of enjoying sausages, and there's no better time that Oktoberfest to do it right at Brotzeit.

In contrast, the boldly spiced Regensburger Sausage (P 610) with its dense filling of coarse pork and beef brings flavor-forward and deep, pronounced notes to the palate complemented by a generous dab of mustard. Served with roasted potatoes and sauerkraut, the Regensburger Sausage offers solid punchy flavors with a fresh snap best washed down with a cold Weihenstephan Festbier.

Richly spiced, the Regensburger Sausage delivers an intense flavorful richness followed by whisper of smoky hints. Often called the "knacker" due to its cracking sound with each juicy bite, the Regensburger Sausage is a feast in itself with its sides of rustic roasted potatoes and sauerkraut. The sauerkraut along with the mustard cuts through the savory richness of the Regensburger Sausage for a perfectly balanced finish best paired with another round of Weihenstephan Festbier.

And like the Schweinshaxn, the signature Schnitzel is part of Brotzeit's culinary DNA with a special rendition just for Oktoberfest. The Munich Schnitzel (P 750) brings a regional variation to the classic with tender pork cutlet marinated in horseradish and mustard for that extra layer of flavor.

Paired with sweet mustard, cucumber potato salad and cranberry sauce, the Munich Schnitzel offers a refreshing new schnitzel experience with the horseradish and mustard marinade adding a flavorful depth to the crisp and juicy cutlet. It's the top schnitzel pick for Oktoberfest only at Brotzeit.

My top three picks for Oktoberfest at Brotzeit may not be what you expect, without the usual suspects led by the popular bestselling Schweinshaxn and large platters of sausages. Then again, Brotzeit offers a whole lot more like the Bayerische Weisswurst, Regensburger Sausage and Munich Schnitzel for even more flavorful options and a true taste of Bavaria this Oktoberfest. Grab another Bavarian Brezn and add these three picks to your next Oktoberfest feast at Brotzeit. But better hurry. These specials will only be available until the end of October.
