Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant brings the traditional Teishoku-dining concept to the metro with the opening of its very first branch at SM Megamall. Choose from a variety of set meals, including an impressive range of sides and desserts, and create your own Teishoku-style feast...at Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant.

Established more than 130 years ago by Tamijiro Shio in Tokyo, Yayoi had the distinction of serving east meets west Teishoku set meals at affordable prices. Today, Yayoi has well over 300 restaurants in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, the US, Australia, and now the Philippines.

With its rich heritage, Yayoi injects modern technology with its traditional-meets-contemporary vibe via a unique ordering system. Diners can simply tap on an iPad Menu for their orders, and monitor the status of their orders in real time. And when it's time to check out, just tap on the screen. It's that easy.

Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant takes inspiration from the Teishoku culinary tradition, a full meal consisting of a main dish of meat or seafood, with miso soup, a steaming bowl of rice, and side dishes of vegetables and Tsukemono, or Japanese pickles. The formula of "one main, three sides" allows diners to experience a full range of flavors, and enjoy a satisfying meal. Take Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant's Saba Shio Teishoku (P 425), with salt-grilled mackerel as your main dish served with miso soup, a bowl of steaming white rice, vegetables and Japanese pickles. The light and delicate notes of the mackerel are complemented by a variety of sides for a complete meal.

The Hitsumabushi (P 650), a Nagoya-style grilled eel topped on soft and fluffy rice is another classic set meal served with a side of dashi broth, steamed rice, vegetables and Japanese pickles. The rich notes of the grilled eel delivers all the flavors you need, but you can enhance it even more sprinkled with condiments or by pouring the dashi broth.

If you're craving for Japanese-style chicken, Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant's Namban Teishoku (P 395) should satisfy your appetite, with a crisp, tender and juicy fried chicken steak in sweet and sour sauce topped with a special tartar sauce. The set offers a rich play on flavors and textures, with the sides completing the meal.

The Sukiyaki Teishoku (P 550), offers traditional and familiar flavors, a savory beef hot pot with assorted vegetables stewed in mildly sweet sukiyaki sauce. The fork-tender beef is juicy packing a flavorful punch, and you can enrich the flavors further by dipping it in egg, perfectly finished by the soft udon noodles.

If you still can't decide, go for the Mix Toji Teishoku (P 425), with crisp breaded pork loin, fried shrimp, and sukiyaki beef slowly simmered in a special sauce with egg. With pork, seafood and beef in one dish, this one is a Teishoku trifecta, and the intense notes of the sauce with egg adds even more layers of flavor to the dish.

A soft tofu salad with edamame and carrots, along with a hot bowl of miso soup and tart Tsukemono come with each set of the Mix Toji Teishoku. The miso soup opens up your palate, while the Japanese pickles cleanse it preparing you for yet another big bite of the Mix Toji Teishoku for balanced flavors.

Cap your meal with Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant's Green Tea Ice Cream with Azuki Beans and Matcha Warabi Mochi, an indulgent treat with three different components. The velvety smooth green tea-flavored ice cream is not too sweet, kicked up a notch by the rich whipped cream and distinct notes of the red beans. The soft matcha warabi mochi rounds out the dessert. Tamajiro Shio knew he had a good idea when he opened his restaurant back in 1886 with one restaurant in Tokyo. And now his Teishoku dining concept, combining a wide range of rich flavors in a full set at reasonable prices, is enjoyed in over six countries outside Japan, proving it's a concept that works.
