Retracing the roots of the revolution, a bite into history, and seeing it all in the best light. It's the Cavite Food and Heritage Tour with Transitions Optical...
No appreciation of history can be complete without immersing one's self completely, being in the place, tasting the local cuisine, and seeing it all with absolute visual clarity for a proper experiential perspective. The sense of sight is, after all, the most important as we perceive 80% of all impressions through our eyes, engaging the four other senses through the sense of sight. And with Transitions Lenses, wearers can experience #LifeInTheBestLight, protecting their eyes and enhancing their vision, maximizing all other senses for the very best in each experience.
Noted food writer, magazine editor, and book designer, Guillermo "Ige" Ramos (L) and RJ Ledesma, led our Cavite Food and Heritage Tour with Transitions Optical, a full day experience deep into the province that witnessed the birth of a new nation. It's an experience made clearer with Transitions Lenses (R)...

Less than an hour's drive from the metro, Cavite has long been regarded as the "Cradle of the Philippine Revolution," capped by the historic Philippine Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite. Its geographic location made it a strategically important province during the Spanish colonial period, with its proximity to Manila Bay, a key link in the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade connecting the colony to the rest of the world. Blessed with bountiful marine resources from the coast and river systems along with fertile lands, Cavite's culinary heritage has been defined by its diverse geography, yet remains one of the simplest. As Ige Ramos explained, unlike other provinces like Pampanga or Bacolod where the agrarian economy was driven by rice and sugar respectively creating a wealthy class of land owners, Cavite's cuisine has no class-specific dishes, with absolutely no "pagkain pang mayaman" (dishes for the rich), instead, the province boasts of simple dishes with simple yet rich flavors. And that's how the revolutionaries started the day, with a simple breakfast of smoked fish or Tinapang Salinas...
...with the Magdiwang Breakfast at Malen's. You can also try the Filibusterismo (P 265), with Malen's fried rice, beef tapa, and Tortang Itlog with burong mustasa, and homegrown local coffee. Chef Harie Bunda of Malen's offers traditional Filipino dishes along with international favorites, including pizza and their signature Roast Beef.
Complete your breakfast with Malen's Ensalada, with fresh cucumbers, mangoes and salted egg, just one of many classic Filipino dishes lovingly preserved by Malen's. Like many in Cavite, the family-run establishment traces its roots with the Magdiwang side of the KKK movement, one of two major factions along with Magdalo during the revolution.
Uncomplicated, simple cuisine with real flavors consistent with Cavite's no-frills culinary style offering real flavors, it's the perfect way to start the Cavite Food and Heritage Tour with Transitions Lenses.
Or you can try one of Cavite's delicacies, the local native sausage by D'Famous Imus Longganisa made with pork spiced with bold garlicky hints (more on the Cavite Food and Heritage Tour with Transitions Lenses on my other posts, A Taste of Cavite's Best with Ka Julia's Kakanin Delicacies and Tanza's Calle Real and The Pink Table).
Whatever you decide, Malen's is the perfect stop for a satisfying meal in Cavite. And one good way to reconnect with the past with their Magdiwang Breakfast. After a comforting meal, it was time to hit the road and continue with our Cavite Food and Heritage Tour with Transitions Optical. And shifting from indoor to outdoor, with its contrasting light conditions, is no problem with Transitions Lenses. Like a chameleon, your lenses adjusts accordingly with the right shade to protect your eyes from UV rays and excessive glare. And you're ready for the next stop in the tour with absolute visual clarity, indoor or out...
